Episode 7 – Deanna H. Choi – Sound Design

DEANNA H. CHOI (she/her) is a Korean-Canadian sound designer and composer working in theatre, film and television, dance, and installation. She has collaborated on over 100 productions from coast to coast, with companies including the Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, Soulpepper, Canadian Stage, Tarragon, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Mirvish Productions, Neptune Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Arts Club, Thousand Islands Playhouse, Factory, Coal Mine, Crow’s Theatre, the Howland Company, Theatre New Brunswick, Young People’s Theatre, Native Earth, the Blyth Festival, and others. She has served in artist residencies at the Canadian Film Centre Slaight Music Lab, Banff Centre, and fu-GEN. She is an award-winning violinist, educator, and formerly studied behavioural neuroscience. She is the 2020 laureate of the Pauline McGibbon Award, 2 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, a SOCAN Foundation Award, and has been nominated for the Louis Applebaum Award and a Canadian Screen Music Award. Her ‘yellow fever’ cabaret co-created with Maddie Bautista, Love You Wrong Time, will tour in 2024.
