Episode 7 – Debashis Sinha – Sound Design 

Driven by a deep commitment to the primacy of sound in creative expression, Debashis Sinha has created numerous audio-centred solo and collaborative projects across Canada and internationally. Sound design and composition credits include works for contemporary dance, video, film, and theatre productions with many of Canada’s premiere stage companies, including longstanding artistic relationships with Peggy Baker Dance Projects, the Stratford Festival, Soulpepper Theatre Company, and others. 

He is a winner of multiple awards and nominations for his work on theatre stages in Canada, including a 2022 Dora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Design (Opera category), and is the 2023 Ontario Arts Council’s Louis Applebaum Composer’s Award Laureate. 

His speculative mythology-driven sound practice has led to live appearances and research residencies at MUTEK Japan, NeurIPS, the Guelph Jazz Festival, the Banff Centre, ISEA, Akademie der Künste, EMS Stockholm and others. He has released music on Gustaff, Other People, Archipel and Establishment.
