Super Cool Media Design Workshop – Introduction to Isadora PART I

Real-time video projection, body tracking, multichannel audio, remote performance, and more—could it be true that you don’t need to know how to program in order to make interactive digital art? To make your dreams come true?

One word: Yes.

The goal of this workshop is to introduce you to the basic setup and functionality of Isadora, thereby granting you the ability to create digital media artworks. Hosted online over two sessions, this introductory workshop is open to artists and designers from any discipline; coding knowledge is not required.

Isadora is a versatile node-based visual programming environment, media server, and audiovisual engine for use in creating interactive installations, performances, and video art.

This workshop will be led by Milton Lim (he/him), an interdisciplinary artist who has been using Isadora for the last 6 years—across a large variety of projects and collaborations.

Milton Lim (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, Canada. His research-based practice entwines publicly available data, interactive digital media, and gameful performance to create speculative visions and candid articulations of social capital. His work has been presented across Canada, and internationally in the US, Argentina, the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia. He is an Artistic Associate with Theatre Conspiracy, Co-Artistic Director of Hong Kong Exile, member of an AI-focussed collective called Synectic Assembly, and Artistic-Leader-in-Residence with Canada’s National Theatre School.

Alongside his frequent collaborator Patrick Blenkarn, Milton is also a co-founder of a national video archive of performance (videocan), co-creator behind a performing arts economy trading card game (culturecapital), and co-creator of an upcoming video game performance about donkeys, labour, and revolution (asses.masses). Milton and Patrick will be engaging in long-term international residencies in Buenos Aires, Recife, São Paulo, and Berlin over the next two years.
