Projection Mapping: An Introduction
Welcome to the world of projection mapping! This introductory workshop is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques of projecting digital video onto real-world objects and structures. By the end of this session, you will have the knowledge and resources needed to start creating your own projection mapping projects with confidence.
In this workshop, we will cover a wide range of topics, including:
– The general principles of projection mapping, including how to create a seamless blend between the projected image and the physical surface it is being projected onto.
– An overview of the latest creation and editing software used in the industry along with how to create visually compelling content that will make your projection mapping projects stand out.
– An introduction to playback software and how it can be used to control and synchronize multiple projectors.
– An overview of projectors and other hardware considerations, including how to select the right equipment for your specific project.
– Workflow optimization tips and tricks to help you streamline your project and save time.

Matthew WaddellDigital artist and educator
Matthew Waddell is a digital artist and educator who has dedicated nearly two decades to exploring the relationship between humans and technology. His extensive portfolio includes 3D animation, projection mapping, interactive installations, and audiovisual design for live performance.
Over the past decade, Waddell has received 16 nominations for audiovisual design awards, winning four, and has presented his work at events such as Mutek, Summerworks, Contemporary Calgary, The Alberta Gallery of Art , Eastern Bloc, The Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the WRECK CITY Residency.
He is also a co-founder of Axis Z Media Arts, a digital studio that creates large-scale interactive installations and promotes digital arts literacy in Calgary. Waddell is an active board member for the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS) and offers annual workshops in audiovisual creation. He has also taught at the National Theatre School of Canada and the University of Calgary School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape.
