Navigating Sound Design: From Script to Stage
While there is no “correct” process for sound designing for theatre, and every designer develops their own approach, emerging sound designers may benefit from Richard’s 30+ years of experience in the field. This non-prescriptive workshop will provide an overview of the process of sound designing a show, from script analysis & discussions with the director, all the way through to opening night. We will touch upon the practical aspects of preparing content, communicating with others on the team (stage managers, fellow designers, technicians, etc.), shepherding the design through tech and previews; as well as offering a conceptual framework for assessing content and structure in the context of a particular production.
