Disability Concepts and Design: An Introduction

In this workshop Dr. Jess Watkin unpacks key Disability concepts in relationship to performance, internalized ableism in relation to ourselves and practice, and ultimately invites reflection and action around coming into better relationship with Disabled, Deaf, Mad, and Neurodivergant artists and people. This workshop will be introductory and for folks who have not thought about Disability in relationship to Design before. No materials required.

    Jessica Watkin

    Dr. Jess Watkin finished her PhD at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies with research focusing on Disability Dramaturgy: Performance, Care, and Practice. She is a Blind artist-scholar who works primarily with tactile art, Disability Dramaturgy, and Blind consultation for audio description. She is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of equity in our performance sector, and particularly interested in how Disability can enhance all performances.
